Laxman has 12 Test centuries to his name |
Nottinghamshire will bring in Indian batsman VVS Laxman to replace Adam Voges in August. Voges will play his final game of the season against Durham, starting on 12 August, before going back to Australia. Laxman, who was Wisden Cricketer of the year in 2002, is scheduled to make his debut on 27 August against Sussex. "I've heard lots of great things about Nottinghamshire and I'm really looking forward to playing there at the end of the season," said the 33-year-old. The stylish batsman had a spell at Lancashire last season and hit two centuries and two half-centuries in his five County Championship games. He has 12 Test centuries to his name and scored 54 against England at Trent Bridge in India's seven wicket win last July. | 606: DEBATE |
"Hopefully it will be a successful time for the club and I can make a positive impact," added Laxman. "I've played at Trent Bridge a few times and want to score a lot of runs for the team." David Hussey was set to return to Nottinghamshire after playing for Australia but has been told to rest by his country's cricket board, hence Laxman's arrival. "Laxman is a world class player and he doesn't play one day cricket for India so he can commit to us at a time when a lot of players will be involved in international tournaments," said Notts director of cricket Mick Newell. "He is an accomplished international batsman with excellent footwork and he reads spin very well. He is a big name and we're pleased that he has agreed to join us."
