Nottinghamshire have completed the signing of right-arm swing bowler Darren Pattinson. Pattinson, who has agreed a two-year deal, was born in Grimsby and moved to Australia as a child. But the 28-year-old has spent the last two summers playing club cricket in England and holds a British passport. Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "We've had an eye on him since he came for a net two years ago. He bowls with good pace and gets the ball to swing." | He's come into the first-class game late and that should mean he's got plenty of miles left on the clock |
Newell added: "Like Charlie Shreck, he's come into the first-class game late and that should mean he's got plenty of miles left on the clock. "We're keen to see how he gets on with more regular cricket and believe he will be a very useful performer in all competitions." Pattinson will provide much-needed cover for England duo Stuart Broad and Ryan Sidebottom. Sidebottom has been awarded an England central contract and is only expected to be available for a few of Notts' Championship matches. Broad's appearances may also be limited after his promising performances on the recent tour of New Zealand. A team-mate of Notts overseas batsman David Hussey at Victoria, Pattinson made his first-class debut in the 2006-07 season after consistent performances at grade level in Melbourne.
