Davies' five-wicket haul helped revive Saints' title prospects. |
Former England A spinner Michael Davies helped Northampton Saints revive their title chances in the Northants League Premier Division at the weekend. The ex-Northants and Essex slow left-armer claimed 5-35 to dismiss Wellingborough for 139 and set up a four-wicket win for Saints. They now trail the leaders Finedon, who drew with the Northants Academy, by only nine points. The day's other top division winners were Rushden and Stony Stratford. But the most exciting finish came at Billing Road where Peterborough responded to Old Northamptonians' 215-7 with 215-9 to earn a draw with the scores level. Elsewhere in the league, Oundle Town captain Cameron Wake passed 1,000 runs for the season in Division Two - with eight matches left - while Ray Swann, the father of England star Graeme, hit 117 for Saints' fourth team to register the 100th century of his career.
