Panesar endured a tough time on his Lions debut |
Northants spinner Monty Panesar struggled on his debut for Highveld Lions in South Africa's SuperSport Series at the weekend. The England international claimed two wickets for 131 in 37 overs as Eastern Cape Warriors piled up 532 all out at Buffalo Park in East London. He was then trapped lbw for a duck in a record-breaking Lions reply of 690-9. Opening batsman Stephen Cook hit 390, the highest score ever made by a South African in first-class cricket. Panesar joined the Lions after being left out of the England squad to tour South Africa this winter. Northants have not yet given a cast-iron guarantee that he will play for them next season, though he does remain under contract at the Wantage Road club.
