| Thursday, 13 February, 2003, 16:29 GMT Snape joins Foxes ![]() Snape has netted a new deal Jeremy Snape will turn out for Leicestershire next season after signing a three-year deal at Grace Road. The signing of the England all-rounder is the second for the Foxes during the off-season, after wicket-keeper Paul Nixon returned to the club. Leicestershire also confirmed the signing of Surrey spinner Rupesh Amin, who was released by the champions at the end of the season. But opening batsman Iain Sutcliffe last week turned down a new contract and the offer of the captaincy. And new general manager Kevin Hill is still to sign a group of veterans, including former skipper Vince Wells, Darren Stevens, Devon Malcolm and Trevor Ward to new contracts. "They're in the first division of both competitions, have been very consistent and had a lot of success," Snape told BBC Sport Online. "Grace Road is a great place to work and has excellent facilities." Snape, 29, was regularly excluded from Gloucestershire's first team in 2002 amid reports of tension between some players and coach John Bracewell. He was released at the end of last season, with the club explaining that their relationship had been "very poor".
He was a member of the Gloucestershire side which dominated one-day cricket in 1999-2000, winning back-to-back Lord's finals in both the B&H Cup and C&G Trophy. It earned him an England call-up for a five-match series in Zimbabwe last year and he was named Man of the Match after his debut in Harare. He has been named as one of seven players to join the Ashes squad in Australia ahead of the triangular series there starting in January. |
