Malinga Bandara has played eight Test matches for Sri Lanka |
Kent coach Paul Farbrace has said he feels his side will have a strong Twenty20 campaign with two international bowlers at his disposal. Overseas player Malinga Bandara will make his debut on 2 June, while James Tredwell is back from England duty. "Treddy's one of the best one-day bowlers and Bandara's reputation is built on one-day cricket," he told BBC Radio Kent. "If we have those two in every side then that puts us in a good position." He added: "As for championship cricket - we've seen the wickets are quite dry. Hopefully, going into July, August and September they'll get drier still and they'll turn a little bit more," said Farbrace. "It'll be great to see one off-spinner and one leg-spinner working in tandem at Canterbury." Bandara is expected to play for Kent's second XI prior to his debut against Essex. His first appearance will coincide with the departure of Kent's other overseas player, Makhaya Ntini, who is heading back to his native South Africa to carry out a role in the football world cup. "Makhaya will leave sometime in the first week of June to go to the world cup where he's acting as an ambassador for FIFA in South Africa," explained Farbrace. "They'll have the excitement and noise of Makhaya and we'll all be able to rest a little bit easier," he joked. Kent have a strong record in the Twenty20 Cup, having reached finals day for past three years and winning the competition in 2007.
