Fast-medium bowler Cook made his debut for Kent in 2005 |
Kent have extended the contract of bowler Simon Cook until the end of the 2011 season. The 33-year-old seam-bowler arrived at Canterbury in 2004 after a successful spell at Middlesex. Cook has taken 293 wickets in first-class cricket and 60 in Twenty20 competitions, at an average of 22.46. Kent have also signed 18-year-old fast-bowler Ashley Shaw on a two-year professional contract, after a trial at the club. Kent team director Paul Farbrace told the club website: "Ashley is an exciting prospect. He has a good work ethic and wants to improve as a cricketer. He did well in a recent trial and we are keen to work with him and hopefully enhance his game." Commenting on Cook's extension, Farbrace added: "Securing the services of an experienced player like Simon is great news for the club. He is a quality bowler and is fast becoming Kent's mister reliable."
