Parnell proved his international credentials in the ICC World Twenty20 |
Kent believe that the return of South Africa fast bowler Wayne Parnell will help take them to the top of Division Two of the County Championship. The 19-year-old is back for a further five weeks, after impressing during his initial stint earlier in the season. He is expected to be in the side for their four-day game with Surrey. "Wayne is very keen to get on with the job, he put a request in to come back and play county cricket," coach Simon Willis told BBC Radio Kent. "He felt it improved his game immensely last time so he's keen to make an impression and hopefully that will start at the Oval," Willis added. "There has been a lot of interest from IPL (Indian Premier League) and other countries, with regard to his services. "The World Twenty20 certainly put Wayne Parnell on the map." Kent go into the game with Surrey second in Division Two, with a game in hand over leaders Gloucestershire - who they beat last week. Captain Rob Key reiterated his coach's feeling about Parnell's return. "There are a few teams in there that are going to be jostling for position at the end of the summer. But we're winning games of cricket now which is good "And we've got Wayne Parnell coming back for a few games now, which will be a big boost." Parnell is available from 10 July to 4 August, which means he can play in the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals, three County Championship games and a Pro40 match.
