Kent's Key would relish another opportunity in the national side |
Kent captain Rob Key is hoping to get another chance with England, even though his poor form cost him a regular place at the ICC World Twenty20. Key, 30, was dropped after just one appearance against the Netherlands. His bad form has continued into Kent's Championship match with Essex when he was out for a first-ball duck. "Bad form couldn't have come at a worse time. I'd like to think that's all it is. If I start scoring some runs you never know," he told BBC Radio Kent. "It's going to be tough, but the fact is I didn't disgrace myself because I didn't play. "I still believe if I had had a chance I would have done well, especially in that form of the game. "I've only had two hits in Twenty20 and it's a game where you can really kick-start your season, and I felt if I had been given a chance I would have done well, but it wasn't to be." | 606: DEBATE |
Key led Kent to victory in the Twenty20 Cup in 2007, and to the final again in 2008. He normally opens the batting, but when he got his only opportunity with England, he came in at number six in the defeat by the Netherlands, scoring 10 runs from eight balls. England were eventually knocked out of the ICC World Twenty20 in the Super Eight's stage by the West Indies. Key said: "It was an amazing experience really, all bar not playing. "The crowds were unbelievable. It's a fantastic tournament and it's a shame we're not in it anymore. "I won't be proud of the fact I was 12th man, but I'll look back with fond memories of the time just watching and being a part of it. "It's just a shame, I think we had the side to go through and do even better in that competition, we just didn't quite click."
