Walker is currently enjoying his benefit year at Kent |
Kent batsman Matt Walker has spoken of his sadness at having to leave the club at the end of the season. After 16 years with Kent, Walker, 33, has not been offered a new contract and is now looking for a new county. He told BBC Radio Kent: "I was born and bred in Kent, started at under-10 level and played a second-team game at 15. "I love the place and I always had a picture in my head that I would finish my playing career at Kent, but it does not always happen like that." He added: "It's been 20 years with the county, so it's going to be different, very different. "I'm not the first and I won't be the last. but things haven't worked out and that's life and whatever happens next I'm really looking forward to it." Walker, who is in his benefit year, has been in and out of the Kent side this summer but he refuses to think his career is over. "There's a few things on the table from a few clubs, so it's a case of sitting down and working a few things out," he said. "But there's quite a bit of positive news around the corner." Club President Peter Morgan told the club's website: "Matthew has made a major contribution to Kent cricket. "Aside from his huge talent as a cricketer, Matthew's infectious enthusiasm for life on and off the field has endeared him to everyone connected with Kent cricket. "We will miss him greatly and wish him and his family well for the rest of his benefit year and into the future."
