County Championship D1, Canterbury, day two (stumps): Kent 527 v Sussex 332 Walker faced 254 balls with 16 fours |
Matt Walker hit his highest score for more than four years and Sussex looked set to follow on against Kent after a poor second day at Canterbury. Matt Prior (112) hit his third century of the year in reply, sharing a stand of 139 with Richard Montgomerie (70) to rescue Sussex from 92-4 at one point.
But Matthew Dennington and Robbie Joseph took three wickets each to cut the visitors down for 332.
Walker, 83 overnight, followed Ed Smith's 166 with 157 in a total of 527.
In all he faced 254 balls with 16 fours and two sixes before he was last man out, providing Mushtaq Ahmed with a fourth victim.
Kent's dominance was all the more surprising as they were hammered by the same opponent by an innings just a week ago.
There was a fine effort from the young Kent bowlers, three of whom - Rob Joseph, Simon Cusden and Dennington - are playing in only their second Championship match.
