Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove rues rain abandonment

Hampshire

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove has expressed his frustration at the abandonment of their final Caribbean T20 match against Trinidad & Tobago.

The Royals must now rely on Trinidad & Tobago beating Barbados in the final group game on Friday to progress.

"It's gut wrenching. We've been defeated by the environment," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"The quality of this tournament has been high, we've played good cricket and I fancied us to win the match."

Bransgrove placed part of the blame for the abandonment on the Kensington Oval ground staff, who he believes reacted rashly when making their decision.

"Theoretically it should take three minutes to get the covers off, but they declared the game void and started taking the covers off," he said.

"We understand the rules when we come into it and I don't want to get down about this.

"I have had a thoroughly enjoyable tournament. It's been very good for the club and for the players and I'm very proud of them.

"There are an awful lot of positives to take from it and things can still go in our favour and even if they don't it's still a great thing to attend and we'd love to do it again," he added.
