Simon Jones has suffered numerous injury problems in his career |
Fast bowler Simon Jones is confident he will be fit enough to make regular Championship appearances for Hampshire next season. Jones, who has suffered from a long-standing knee injury since helping England win the Ashes in 2005, played largely one-day cricket last season. The 31-year-old told BBC Radio Solent: "2011 looks very positive. I've got rid of a few demons and things look good. "I hope to play in nine or ten Championship games next year." Jones has even more reason to be excited about cricket in Hampshire next year. The Rose Bowl hosts its first Test match between 16-20 June 2010, when England play Sri Lanka. "It's the first Test match down here, so history will be made, and that's great because everyone has worked hard to develop the the Rose Bowl," he said. The former Ashes hero, six of whose eight appearances for Hampshire last season were in T20 matches, believes The Rose Bowl is an ideal stadium for England to play Test cricket. "You've seen this ground develop over the past few years and the crowds we get, it's incredible. The atmosphere last year during T20 was brilliant so it will be great."
