Hants had hoped Herath would make the trip to Edgbaston
Hampshire's overseas player Rangana Herath has arrived at the Rose Bowl after a two-week delay in obtaining his work visa.
The club had hoped to have the Sri Lanka left-arm spinner available for the start of the season.
Herath told BBC Radio Solent: "There were a lot more procedures to go through this time around."
The 32-year-old has signed a two-month contract which takes him to the start of the domestic Twenty20 competition.
Herath added: "The last six-to-nine months I've done pretty well with the Sri Lankan national team so that is the reason they [Hampshire] have picked me."
Herath has played 21 Test matches for Sri Lanka taking 70 wickets and played in six one-day internationals.
