Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove is calling for a "level playing field" ahead of the proposed new Twenty 20 Champions League of cricket. The winner of the competition in the Middle East or India will pocket $5,000,000 (2,524,500). England will be represented by the two teams that contest the domestic Twenty20 Cup final at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, 26 July 2008. However, Bransgrove is concerned that the Hawks will be without key players. He told BBC Radio Solent: "We've got three of our best players - Kevin Pietersen, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Chris Tremlett on England duty for most of the competition. It does place us at something of a disadvantage. "That's what I mean about trying to create and maintain an even playing field. It's going to be very difficult for us under those circumstances. "One has to ask the question, should those clubs losing players on England duty be more fairly compensated for the loss of those players if their position in a $5,000,000 final is being jeopardised." Of the three players in question, only Pietersen is centrally contracted to the England and Wales Cricket Board.
