Hampshire's pre-season tour to Barbados has been cancelled because of a lack of sponsorship.

The squad were to play in a tournament in memory of the fast-bowling great Malcolm Marshall at the end of March.

Marshall played for Hampshire for 15 seasons before dying of colon cancer in 1999 at the age of 41.

Manager Paul Terry told BBC Radio Solent: "A lack of sponsorship, mainly at their end, means we have had to alter our plans."

Hampshire, Barbados and Jamaica were three of the four sides that were to have competed in a Twenty20 tournament. A fourth team had yet to be found.

"That appears now to have fallen by the wayside," Terry added.

"We will be spending most of our time now in the indoor centre at the Rose Bowl honing our skills."
