Derek Shackleton, Hampshire's all-time leading wicket-taker and one of the county's greatest ever players, has died at the age of 83. "Shack" took 2,857 first-class wickets, including 2,669 for Hampshire, and served the county from 1948 to 1969.
The seamer claimed over 100 wickets in 20 consecutive seasons, including 172 in 1962 - after helping Hampshire to their first Championship title in 1961.
He also played in seven Tests for England, taking 18 wickets.
An accurate and economical bowler, he could be considered unlucky not to have played more for his country in an era which saw Alec Bedser, Frank Tyson, Fred Trueman and Brian Statham dominate England's seam attack.

Shackleton took nine wickets in an innings on four occasions, and recorded match figures of 14-29 against Somerset at Weston-super-Mare in 1955 - taking 8-4 in the first innings as the hosts were skittled for 37, and 6-25 in the second. Born in Todmorden, Yorkshire, he was chosen as one of Wisden's "Five Cricketers of the Year" in 1959, alongside Hampshire team-mate Roy Marshall.
After retiring from first-class cricket, he coached at Canford School in Dorset.
