Former Hampshire captain Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie, who led the club to its first County Championship title in 1961, has died at the age of 72. A wicket-keeper/batsman, he hit 12,421 first-class runs with 11 centuries in a career lasting some 15 seasons.
He also played for the MCC, and later became president of both the MCC and Hampshire Cricket in 2002 before being awarded an OBE by the Queen in 2005.
Hampshire Chairman Rod Bransgrove said the club was "devastated" by the news.
He went on: "Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie embodied everything that was good about Hampshire Cricket and he was a source of inspiration and encouragement to me personally.
"His loss extends beyond the Hampshire Cricket family and the game as a whole will miss his ebullient character and acute sense of humour."
