Redmond has played in seven Tests for New Zealand |
Gloucestershire have signed New Zealand international Aaron Redmond for the remainder of their FP t20 fixtures. The 30-year-old Kiwi opener will replace fellow countryman Ian Butler who has a back injury. Redmond will be available for Gloucestershire's FP t20 match against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl on Friday. The county's director of cricket John Bracewell told BBC Gloucestershire: "He's a natural and aggressive opener and is also able to bowl spin." He added: "It's a blow losing Ian because he is capable of winning games with bat or ball, but we are happy to have found a quick replacement in someone with Aaron's ability. "Ian has a bulged disc, which is something that has just developed and become sorer and sorer." Redmond toured England with New Zealand in 2008. He comes into a squad who have won just one of their eight FP t20 matches and lie bottom of South Group. Their latest game ended in a 66-run home defeat by Essex on Wednesday. Redmond is expected to open the batting with Will Porterfield against Hampshire while captain Alex Gidman again leaves himself out and Steve Snell faces a late fitness test. The wicketkeeper suffered an eye wound after being struck by a ball during training.
