Gloucestershire chairman John Light wants the county to play in Gloucester next summer. There was no Gloucester Festival this year after 15 seasons at the Kings School ground in the city. Light told BBC Gloucestershire: "We are anxious to play in Gloucester and there have been meetings about it this week. "We are looking for a sponsor and we are looking for a venue. Club cricket is numerically strong in Gloucester but there are not many good grounds." Gloucestershire played at the Wagon Works ground in Tuffley Avenue between 1923 and 1992, when the wicket was deemed unfit for first-class cricket. Light added: "The ground has the space but needs a lot of work. It would take three years to get the wicket ready and it has no facilities for players or spectators. It's pretty spartan so it's a medium term option. In the short term we're talking to the (Kings) school and to the Gloucester City-Winget club who play at the Spa." Gloucestershire play some second XI games at the Hatherley and Reddings club just outside Cheltenham, but Light ruled out playing there. "The facilities are excellent and the pitch is marvellous but there are pylons there and I'm not sure you would get in all the trappings of a Twenty20 game. There are problems finding a venue but the wish to do it is there and I hope we do."
