Gloucestershire all-rounder Alex Gidman could be about to do a u-turn and commit his future to the county. It is understood incoming director of cricket John Bracewell has convinced him to snub a lucrative move to Warwickshire to stay in Bristol. "That would be great news," captain Jon Lewis told BBC Radio Bristol. "He's a talented guy and a fine cricketer. "John is a fantastic coach and a very influential person, and Alex has worked with him before in his first spell." Bracewell returns to Gloucestershire in April 2009, but is believed to have spoken to Gidman about his future last week. The all-rounder has been considering leaving the county to revive his international prospects. "Alex is very ambitious and wants to play for England," said Lewis. "I strongly believe he can do that, and if he does commit to us, that can only be good for the club and him." | If he does commit to us that can only be good for the club and him. |
Meanwhile, Gloucestershire are trying to agree a long-term deal with England-under-19 bowler Ian Saxelby who is on a pay-as-you-play contract with the county. The 19-year-old former Nottinghamshire player is registered with Gloucestershire until the end of the season. "He's a big strong boy and he hits the bat pretty hard and he looks a good prospect," Lewis added. "The club are in talks with him at the moment to see if we can secure his services for the near future. It's something I really hope we can do."
