New chief executive Alan Hamer has been at Glamorgan since 2006 |
Glamorgan have promoted finance and commercial director Alan Hamer to the position of chief executive at the Welsh cricket county. Hamer joined Glamorgan in 2006 and along with his fellow directors was instrumental in delivering a successful first Ashes Test in Cardiff last July. The 39-year-old replaces Mike Fatkin as permanent chief after he parted company with Glamorgan in September 2008. Chairman Paul Russell took on the chief executive role after Fatkin departed. Russell said that Hamer had proved his worth at the Swalec Stadium since his arrival and deserves the new role. "Alan has been a tremendous asset to the club over the last three years and his wealth of knowledge and experience has led to marked improvements in the club's financial position," Russell said. | 606: DEBATE |
"Not only does he have a detailed understanding of our business but he possesses also the necessary drive and determination to bring about further growth at the club." Glamorgan Cricket was able to report a a £14,688 profit for the year ending 2007 - the first recorded profit since 1999. Profits have continued to rise since then while the old Sophia Gardens ground has been transformed into the modern Swalec Stadium, which proved itself a successful host for the thrilling 2009 Ashes opener. The fifth day, which saw England hang on for a nail-biting draw against Australia, added another £200,000 to Glamorgan's profits. The club reports that annual turnover has increased from £3m to £10m and for the last two years Glamorgan Cricket has been able to report profits after those loss-making years. The Swalec Stadium will host at least five one-day internationals, a Twenty20 international, plus an England v Sri Lanka Test between 2012 and 2016 - with the chance to bid for 50 more unallocated games. Hamer said that he is looking forward to the challenges ahead. "Being appointed as the chief executive of Glamorgan Cricket is a great honour for me," Hamer said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working at the club and I am totally committed to building on the improvements the management team has delivered over the past few years."
