Former Glamorgan boss Mike Fatkin has been appointed as the Welsh Netball Association's chief executive officer.

Fatkin takes up the job after parting company with Glamorgan last August.

"Having been involved in cricket all my working life it's fantastic now to have the opportunity to work in a different sport," said Fatkin.

"It's a challenge, but one I'm really looking forward to tackling. I know I can make a significant difference to the sport in Wales."

Fatkin, who will replace Sue Holvey in May, will lead the organisation and be responsible for "corporate and strategic management."

The Yorkshireman was at Glamorgan for 22 years - the last 13 as chief executive.

The club experienced significant success, playing and non-playing, while he was at the helm.

He also helped put together the successful Ashes 2009 bid and in developing the £10m Swalec Stadium.

"Mike's commercial expertise will be crucial to the future of Welsh Netball," said Stephanie Hazlehurst, chair of the Welsh Netball Association.

"We were looking for someone with a proven track record when it comes to managing strategic plans, increasing profile and income so we are delighted with this appointment."

One of Fatkin's main objectives will be to ensure Wales qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
