Cosgrove would not be classed as an overseas player if he signs |
Australia one-day international Mark Cosgrove could be set for a return to Glamorgan next season. The 24-year-old has been linked with the Welsh county after Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard said he wanted to sign a top-order batsman. "I'm looking for a fast bowler and a top-order batsman," Maynard told BBC Sport Wales. Cosgrove scored more than 1,000 runs in his previous Glamorgan spell, enjoying an average of more than 50 runs. Glamorgan have already re-signed one of their former batsmen as South African star Herschelle Gibbs has agreed to come back in 2009. The 34-year-old played for the Dragons in last summer's Twenty20 Cup and has re-signed for the months of July, August and September with an option to extend. | 606: DEBATE | Cosgrove, though, will not be classed as an overseas player because the left-handed opening batsman has a British passport. The South Australian player is highly-rated talent and was widely-regarded as an Australian international for future. He played three times for the Aussies one-day team in 2006 but he has suffered consistent problems with weight and fitness problems. Glamorgan have not officially confirmed if Cosgrove is a target but boss Maynard hopes to make at least one signing by "the middle of next week." Meanwhile, former Glamorgan skipper David Hemp has been appointed as cricket coach at Solihull School, after his September release by the county.
