David Hemp says he is not ready to retire from professional cricket
David Hemp is seeking a new county after being released by Glamorgan.
The 37-year-old Bermudan international captained the Dragons last season.
Hemp told BBC Sport's The Back Page programme that his release came as no surprise, but that he is not yet ready to retire from first-class cricket.
"I had a chat with (Glamorgan cricket manager) Matthew Maynard back in August, I had a feeling from that far out that I probably wouldn't be around next season," Hemp said.
"I was obviously disappointed to hear the news that I won't be retained as a player, but for me it's not the end of the world... it wasn't a complete shock to me, no.
"I would still like to carry on playing, I'm still playing with Bermuda until April next year, but domestically I don't want to retire.
"I've had a great time at Glamorgan, there was some wonderful memories, I'll always be indebted to them for giving me the chance to play."
Although Hemp knew he would probably have to leave Glamorgan, he had been unwilling to begin talks with other counties until the season had ended.
The left-handed batsman felt that having the captain in talks with other teams would have reflected badly on Glamorgan and himself, but that now he is happy to seek other opportunities.
