Croft made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 1989 |
Spinner Robert Croft has been left out of Glamorgan's 13-man squad for next week's two one-day pre-season friendlies at county champions Sussex. Croft, 37, signed a contract extension in December after a season which saw him reach the 1,000-wicket milestone. But Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard has instead opted to give some of his younger players a chance. New signings Matthew Wood, Jamie Dalrymple and Adam Shantry will also feature in the friendlies. | 606: DEBATE |
Alex Wharf will miss the trip with a neck injury and is replaced by Tom Maynard. Next week will also mark the return of Michael Powell and David Harrison after their injuries and illness last summer. It will be Powell's first start in a one-day game since last May when Glamorgan played Surrey in the Friends Provident Trophy. Harrison on the other hand last took the field for the county in a one-day match in September 2006.
David East has succeeded Chris Brain as Glamorgan President. East is the former South Wales Police Chief Constable and Welsh Rugby Union Secretary. Don Shepherd has been made an Honorary Life Vice President, and John Williams an Honorary Life Member.
Glamorgan squad to face Sussex next Monday and Tuesday: D Hemp (captain), M Wood, M O'Shea, M Powell, J Dalrymple, B Wright, M Wallace, T Maynard, D Harrison, D Cosker, A Shantry, R Watkins and H Waters.
