Essex's Maurice Chambers out of FP t20 finals day

Essex seam-bowler Maurice Chambers is unlikely to recover from a side strain in time to feature at the FP t20 finals day at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.

However Andy Carter, 21, should overcome a knock to be available for the semi-final with Hampshire.

Head coach Paul Grayson told BBC Essex: "Unfortunately Maurice is going to be out for another week to 10 days.

He added: "Carter should be OK for the weekend, he's going to have a run-out on Wednesday for Lincolnshire."

Carter has yet to take a T20 wicket this season, but has been in good form in the longer version of the game, taking five wickets against Warwickshire last week and seven in the defeat by Kent the week before.

But Chambers, 22, who has removed six batsmen on the way to the Rose Bowl, will have to be replaced.

"We're hoping Dwayne Bravo's still going to be here and Ravi Bopara bowled for the first time in two weeks," continued Grayson.

"And we can put David Masters and Christopher Wright in there."

After their five-wicket victory over Northants in the Clydesdale Bank 40 at the weekend, Grayson is happy with his options ahead of the Hampshire clash.

Batsman Alastair Cook is available after England won the second Test against Pakistan a day early. And youngsters Adam Wheater and Michael Comber, both 20, have put themselves in the frame with their match-winning half-centuries on Sunday.

Grayson said: "I've got my 11 picked already. Those two will both travel with us to Southampton in the squad of 17, in case we get injuries."
