Essex wicketkeeper Adam Wheater happy as understudy

Adam Wheater
Adam Wheater is contracted to Essex until 2012.

Essex wicketkeeper Adam Wheater says he is happy being understudy to James Foster for now.

The 20-year-old took seven catches in Essex's five-wicket win over Bangladesh in a tour match at the weekend.

But Wheater's first-team appearances were limited to just a handful of games last season, and he has yet to play in the County Championship this summer.

He told BBC Essex: "I'm happy where I am at the moment because I'm learning from the best keeper in the world."

Wheater added that he was happy with his role in the win over Bangladesh: "Playing for the first team is a big honour for me so I was pleased there was a success at the end of it.

"I was disappointed to get out in the first innings to a poor shot but it's always good to get a few catches and finish a game off against a touring side."
