Adam Wheater is contracted to Essex until 2012. |
Essex wicketkeeper Adam Wheater says he is happy being understudy to James Foster for now. The 20-year-old took seven catches in Essex's five-wicket win over Bangladesh in a tour match at the weekend. But Wheater's first-team appearances were limited to just a handful of games last season, and he has yet to play in the County Championship this summer. He told BBC Essex: "I'm happy where I am at the moment because I'm learning from the best keeper in the world." Wheater added that he was happy with his role in the win over Bangladesh: "Playing for the first team is a big honour for me so I was pleased there was a success at the end of it. "I was disappointed to get out in the first innings to a poor shot but it's always good to get a few catches and finish a game off against a touring side."
