Gallian to leave Notts for Essex
Jason Gallian
Gallian brings a wealth of experience to Essex's young side
Essex have signed former England Test batsman Jason Gallian on a two-year deal from Nottinghamshire.

The 36-year-old opener is out of contract at the end of the 2007 season.

Gallian appeared in three Test matches for England in 1995 and has amassed over 14,000 first-class runs in his 17-year career.

He enjoyed successful spells with Lancashire before joining Notts, including scoring his highest first-class score of 312.

Essex first-team coach Paul Grayson said: "It has been pretty evident this season that we are in need of a couple of senior batsmen to work with our talented youngsters.

"Jason is a guy I've played against a lot who has an excellent first-class record. He will be a good bloke in the dressing room and it is just as important to bring in good characters as well as good players."

Grayson suggested captain Mark Pettini will drop down the order next season to accommodate Gallian.

Gallian joins bowlers David Masters and Chris Wright in signing for Essex ahead of next season and the club are keen to bring in a couple more faces.
