County Championship Division Two, Chesterfield, day three: Nottinghamshire 548-9d beat Derbyshire 205 and 337 by an innings and six runs
Points: Notts 22, Derbys 4Nottinghamshire all but won promotion to Championship Division One after thrashing Derbyshire by an innings.
Travis Birt hit 85 for Derbyshire in a 219-minute occupation of the crease, but other wickets fell regularly once Jake Needham was fourth out for 48.
The night-watchman batted for 95 minutes and helped Birt put on 89.
But New Zealander Andre Adams took the last two wickets with consecutive deliveries as the hosts were dismissed for 337 55 minutes after lunch.
Notts are now 39 points clear of third-placed Middlesex and a six-point return from their final game at Division Two champions Somerset the week after next will be enough to seal their return to the top flight.
There was never any danger that Notts would slip up when Derbyshire resumed on 142 for three, still 201 runs behind.
But Needham showed his batting potential by stroking eight fours in his highest first-class score before edging Paul Franks low to second slip, while Birt padded up to the left-arm spin of Samit Patel.
Greg Smith completed his fifty off 64 balls before Graeme Swann pinned him leg-before going half-forward and the end was not long in coming.
