Dominant Notts poised to triumph
County Championship Division Two, Chesterfield, day two (close):
Derbyshire 205 & 142-3 v Nottinghamshire 548-9d

Derbyshire require a further 201 to avoid an innings defeat after closing day two 142-3 in their follow-on against Notts at Chesterfield.

All-rounder Jon Clare, 21, became the first Derby bowler to take five wickets on debut for 25 years as Notts declared on 548-9, Stephen Fleming with 243.

He hit 40 fours and two sixes in only 264 balls for the highest individual score at Queen's Park since the war.

It was more than Derby managed between them and they were soon back in.

Fleming and Graeme Swann had taken their seventh-wicket stand to 156 in 24 overs when Swann sliced a drive and was caught at third man for 56.

The captain's superb innings came to an end when he tried to hit Clare over the top but failed to clear mid-off.

Steve Stubbings was caught at gully in the second over and they suffered another body blow in the penultimate over before lunch when skipper Michael Dighton chipped Swann to mid-wicket.

Batting again, Derbyshire gifted their neighbours another wicket when Phil Weston was stupidly run out going for a third to long-off.
