Essex have reached an agreement with Chelmsford Borough Council that will allow them to press ahead with plans to redevelop their county headquarters. The county have played at the County Ground in Chelmsford since 1925.
Having reached agreement with the council over an adjacent car park, the club are now in a position to submit a formal planning application.
The planned redevelopment also includes affordable housing and retail, as well as a multi-storey car park.
Club treasurer Keith Brown said: "This agreement enables ourselves and (development partners) MCD to work on plans to realise our long-held ambition to produce a stadium worthy of our successful team and the revival of the national game.
"We will now be working with council planners to produce an attractive development which will be a focal point in Chelmsford and a benefit to the whole community, but also make economic sense to the club."
