Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris has signed a new two-year deal.

Morris, 45, spent 11 years as a player at the County Ground from 1982-1993 and was appointed as the club's head of cricket in August 2007.

Chairman Don Amott said: "We are delighted that he has agreed to continue. John is passionate about Derbyshire cricket.

"There is no question that significant progress has been made on the field since he took over."

Morris added: "Having begun the process of taking the club forward on the field during the past two years, I am pleased to have the opportunity of continuing that process."

"We have managed to attract some good players from other counties, the development structure has unearthed some exciting young talent to work with and the club is also making excellent strides off the field.

"I look forward to the future with genuine excitement."
