Derbyshire seamer Kevin Dean is to retire from first-class cricket at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old left-arm swing bowler has spent his entire career with the club since his debut in 1996.

Head of cricket John Morris told the club website: "Kevin has been a tremendous player and his retirement is a sad day for the club.

"At his peak he was undoubtedly one of the best bowlers in the country and unlucky not to play at a higher level."

Morris added: "Throughout his career he has been a model professional and in recent years he has set a tremendous example to the young players at Derbyshire."

The 6ft 5in Derby-born bowler has played a total of 166 first class matches taking an average of 26.1 wickets.

Dean told the club website: "I would like to thank everyone at Derbyshire and all the members and supporters for their tremendous support throughout my career.

"I have enjoyed every minute of it and wish the county every success going forward."

He is due to make his final appearance for Derbyshire in their Pro-40 match against Warwickshire Bears in the at the County Ground on Saturday.
