Roberts and McLean in record partnership for Berkshire

Berkshire pair Michael Roberts and Jono McLean set the highest ever partnership for the county as they put on 371 in their win against Herefordshire.

Opener Roberts made 205 and McLean an unbeaten 210 out of a total of 507.

The partnership smashed the previous record for Berkshire, 253 set in 2005, and is the second highest ever in the Minor Counties Championship.

Herefordshire were bowled out for 214 and 249 to give Berkshire their fourth consecutive win.

The only known previous instance of two batsmen scoring double hundreds in the Minor Counties Championship came in 1949, scored by TH Clarke and AF Brazier for Surrey Second XI against Sussex Second XI at the Oval.

Berkshire's first innings total of 507 is also their second highest team total, falling short of the 537 set versus Devon in 1921 at the old County Ground in Reading.

Berkshire head coach Tim Dellor told BBC Berkshire: "For two players to score double hundreds in a season is rare; to do it on the same day extraordinary.

"The guys batted brilliantly and really set up the win for us. They're both players who really ought to be playing first-class cricket and quite why they've been overlooked baffles me."
