Derbyshire's batsmen made good progress to set up an intriguing final day with Leicestershire at Grace Road.

After the visitors conceded a first-innings lead of 96, openers Wayne Madsen (66) and Chris Rogers (47) shared 86 for the first wicket.

Chesney Hughes (30no) and Garry Park (29) also weighed in to take Derbyshire to 238-5 at the close, a lead of 144.

Earlier, Steffan Jones struck twice as Leicestershire fell from 260-6 to 276 all out, with Tom New run out for 54.

The home side began the day with a lead of 64 runs but when Claude Henderson had his middle stump uprooted by Jones, it began a slide that saw Leicestershire lose their last four wickets for 14 runs, with New last out thanks to a direct hit by Greg Smith.

Madsen, who was dropped at slip off the bowling of Nathan Buck, and Rogers came close to wiping out Derbyshire's deficit, only to be parted when Rogers edged Nadeem Malik to Matt Boyce.

Park joined Madsen in a stand of 54 that continued Derbyshire's good progress, but both men fell in quick succession to Henderson's left-arm spin.

Derbyshire's run rate slowed in the evening session, with Henderson (3-41) keeping a lid on the scoring and dismissing Dan Redfern just before the close.
