Tremlett struck four sixes in his half century |
Middlesex took a little over an hour on day three to wrap up victory over Surrey by an innings and 44 runs. The visitors resumed on 110-6 and lost Gareth Batty early to a diving catch by Josh Davey off Tim Murtagh's bowling. Seamer Chris Tremlett replaced him and was dropped on 0 before going on to smash 53 not out off 42 balls. However, Tremlett's fireworks were in vain as Pedro Collins removed Stewart Walters and Tim Linley while Shaun Udal saw off Jade Dernbach to secure a win. Day two hero Toby Roland-Jones, who took a five-wicket haul, came in for early punishment as his only over of the day disappeared for 12 runs. Despite Batty falling to the 13th ball of the morning, Surrey began to score quickly with Walters (43) and Tremlett adding 67 runs. But former West Indies seamer Collins (2-63) was reintroduced to curtail the fiery partnership, drawing Walters into chasing a wider delivery. Tremlett kept up the big hitting but Udal removed Dernbach for nine and Collins dismissed Linley without scoring in the following over to wrap up a big win for Middlesex, only their second victory over their rivals since 1995.
