Tremlett joined Surrey from Hampshire at the end of last season |
A burst of three wickets in nine balls from Chris Tremlett set Surrey on their way to victory by an innings and 175 runs over Northants at The Oval. After being bowled out for 240 in their first innings and forced to follow on, Northants were taken to 96-0 by Stephen Peters (50) and Ben Howgego (45). But Tremlett (3-34) then struck to help reduce them to 96-4. Stuart Meaker then claimed 4-59 as the visitors slipped to 205 all out and defeat inside three days. Rain delayed play by 15 minutes at the start of the day, after which Northants were able to claim a batting bonus point thanks to 36 from last-man Jack Brooks. | 606: DEBATE |
He was eventually caught at backward point by Meaker off Gareth Batty to complete a five-wicket haul for the off-spinner. Following-on, Peters and Howgego gave Northants some hope but after Andre Nel had Peters caught at gully, Tremlett removed Howgego, David Sales and Rob White to effectively end the contest. Meaker got in on the act after tea, running through the middle order before number nine James Middlebrook (36) provided some resistance. He would become the last man to fall, slog-sweeping Usman Afzaal to mid-on, as Surrey wrapped up their maximum-point victory with 13 overs of the third day remaining.
