Ramprakash has faced 247 balls for his 137 not out

Rory Hamilton-Brown and Mark Ramprakash both hit centuries as Surrey took control against Northants, ending day one at The Oval on 430-5.

Hamilton-Brown, who hit a run-a-ball 103, and Ramprakash put on a third-wicket stand of 164.

The Surrey skipper was eventually caught by Andrew Hall off Elton Chigumbura, who claimed three wickets, as Ramprakash ended on 137 not out.

Matthew Spriegel also contributed well for the hosts with an unbeaten 85.

Ramprakash posted his 1,000th run of the season with a sublime on-drive for four to reach 14 before going on to hit the 112th century of his career during his four-and-a-half hour spell at the crease.

Northants will be left to rue their mistakes having dropped a catch in each session as well as missing two run-out attempts against Ramprakash.

The veteran batsman has now reached four figures in first-class cricket for nine successive seasons and 20 in total.
