Glamorgan build big lead before bowlers strike late
LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Cardiff: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Northants 253 and 126-4 Glamorgan 450 Glamorgan 8pts, Northants 5pts Match scorecard
South African all-rounder Hall quit international cricket in 2007
Glamorgan's batsmen built a first-innings lead of 197 over Northants on day three of their Division Two match in Cardiff.
James Allenby (72) was the main contributor as Glamorgan added another 102 to their overnight total of 348-5.
All-rounder Andrew Hall was the pick of the Northants bowlers, taking 4-93 to add to his first innings half-century.
The visitors lost four wickets in reducing the deficit by 126 by stumps, opener Stephen Peters falling for 48.
Resuming with Glamorgan on 348-5 - a first-innings lead of 95 - Allenby continued his good form by registering his fifth half-century of the summer.
After missing out on the fifth batting point by five balls, Allenby lost Mark Wallace who went leg before, and the South African won another lbw decision to dismiss James Harris before Allenby edged Jack Brooks to second slip, having made 76, his highest score of the season.
After 21 overs were lopped off the afternoon session due to a 90-minute rain break, Dean Cosker was trapped in front by David Lucas, who polished off the Glamorgan innings when Harrison chopped on.
Niall O'Brien and Stephen Peters began the task of reducing Glamorgan's lead positively, but Harris broke through to have O'Brien caught down the leg side by Mark Wallace.
Peters was caught by Harrison running in from deep square leg after a top-edged sweep at Cosker, and Northants slipped to 91-3 when Harris broke through for a second time to have Mal Loye caught by Ben Wright at cover point.
Harris then had Rob White leg before, bringing nightwatchman David Lucas to the middle for the final six overs.
