Glamorgan are set to establish a big first innings lead after their top order batsmen steadily turned the screw on Northants on day two in Cardiff.

An opening partnership of 147 between Gareth Rees (64) and Mark Cosgrove (85) set the tone before Jamie Dalrymple pressed home the advantage.

The former England one-day international hit 13 fours in scoring 105 before falling to Nicky Boje.

Glamorgan closed on 348-5, a lead of 95, with five wickets in hand.

Dalrymple's century, from 174 balls with 13 fours, was his fifth for the Welsh side.

Cosgrove looked set to register another century against Northants following the 102 he scored against them last season.

The South Australian left-hander brought up his half-century in only 54 balls, but was 15 short of his century when he edged Lee Daggett to David Sales at second slip.

With Cosgrove's departure the tempo of the innings changed as the Northants bowlers found a better line and length. That improvement was rewarded with the wicket of Rees, caught down the leg side by Niall O'Brien off Andrew Hall.

Dalrymple lost both Ben Wright, caught at slip off Daggett, and Michael Powell, who was trapped in front by Hall, and then, in the final over of the day, the captain was caught at slip off Boje.
