Wagh powers one through the offside during his match-winning innings

Mark Wagh hit his first Championship century of the summer to guide Nottinghamshire to a five-wicket win over Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

Set 245 to win, Wagh made an unbeaten 131, sharing a third-wicket stand of 118 with Hashim Amla (54) as they helped to see their side home on 246-5.

Notts had earlier bowled out Hampshire, 177-4 overnight, for 273.

Samit Patel (4-55) and Charlie Shreck (3-70) both took two wickets to set up their side's successful run chase.

Notts have now won all three of their Championship games so far this summer, while Hampshire have worryingly lost six games in all competitions.

And the home side would have been disappointed not to set a stiffer target after seeing James Vince, Nic Pothas, Sean Ervine and Dominic Cork all make starts but fail to go on and make a big score.

Vince and Pothas began the day together but had added only 13 when Darren Pattinson trapped Pothas leg before, with Vince following in similar fashion soon after to Paul Franks.

Cork and Ervine added 48 for the seventh wicket, but after the former England all-rounder also fell lbw, Patel and Shreck swiftly wrapped up the tail.

Hampshire's hopes of defending the target they had set were not helped by Kabir Ali being withdrawn from the attack with a back complaint, although they were buoyed by Michael Carberry's diving catch off David Griffiths to remove Neil Edwards.

But Wagh soon put Notts on top, racing to his half-century in 42 balls.

His second 50 to reach 100 was slower, and he reached the milestone amid chaotic scenes as wicketkeeper Pothas fell awkwardly and had to be replaced behind the stumps by Cork.

Griffiths had Amla and Patel caught by sub Benny Howell and Chris Benham respectively before holding on to an Ally Brown top edge off Rangana Herath late on, but it was all in vain as Notts captain Chris Read hit the winning runs.
