LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, The Rose Bowl: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Hampshire 300 and 177-4 Nottinghamshire 329 Hants 6pts, Notts 6pts Match scorecard
Notts' Samit Patel celebrates after dismissing Jimmy Adams |
Hampshire's game with Nottinghamshire is intriguingly balanced after the home team finished the day 148 runs ahead with six wickets standing. Steven Mullaney made an unbeaten century for the visitors as they took their first innings score to 329, a lead of just 29. Mullaney received good support from Paul Franks (48) as Dominic Cork took 4-34 and Kabir Ali 3-92. Jimmy Adams hit 60 as Hampshire moved to 177-4, with Samit Patel taking 2-40. Mullaney and tail-ender Franks put on 79 for Nottinghamshire's eighth wicket before Franks was trapped lbw by Cork. The much-travelled all-rounder then took the wickets of Darren Pattinson and Charlie Shreck to ensure the Notts lead was kept to a minimum Hampshire began positively, but the in-form Michael Carberry nicked a swinging delivery from Pattinson to wicketkeeper Chris Read with Hampshire just five runs ahead. Chris Benham was removed lbw by Samit Patel, misjudging a pitched-up delivery from the left-arm spinner. Adams lost another partner when South African Neil McKenzie again failed to deliver on his return to England as he edged a quick Shreck delivery to Read for just 12. Adams' resolve lasted until the 49th over when he popped one up to Bilal Shafayat from Patel, but the experienced Nic Pothas (29 not out) and teenager James Vince (29 not out) put together a 50-run partnership just when it was needed.
