LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Headingley: Yorkshire 610-6 drew with Durham 330 & 46-0 Yorkshire 9pts, Durham 6pts Match scorecard
West Indies fast bowler Tino Best has joined Yorkshire until the end of May |
Yorkshire made county champions Durham follow on, but were denied the chance of victory by the Headingley weather. Resuming on 215-4 in reply to the home side's 610-6 dec, Durham were hit when Michael Di Venuto (108) was unable to continue because of a side strain. Tino Best (4-86) then picked up four wickets to help bowl the visitors out for 330, despite Liam Plunkett's 51. Following on 280 behind, Durham reached 46-0 before rain and bad light ended play with 38 overs still remaining. Durham had moved the score on to 228 when debutant Best enticed Ian Blackwell to jam a full ball into his stumps. And, two balls later, he had Phil Mustard caught low by wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. Plunkett and Ben Stokes (28) led a recovery of sorts by adding 59 for the seventh wicket, but the former was ousted by the return of Best with the second new ball, earning Bairstow another catch. Plunkett moved to his half-century from 90 balls but then played on off the bowling of Steve Patterson, before last man Scott Rushworth lost his middle stump to Best in the first over after lunch. Scott Borthwick, who batted at 10 in the Durham first innings and ended 20 not out, was promoted to open with Kyle Coetzer second time around. And the pair safely negotiated the 22 overs bowled before the weather intervened.
