Wayne Madsen's marathon century was not enough to prevent Derbyshire slipping to a 203-run defeat by Leicestershire. Madsen shared a second-wicket stand of 105 with Paul Borrington (25), but Greg Smith (28) was the only other home batsman to reach double figures. The opener faced 258 balls for his 109 and was the eighth man out when he fell to Nathan Buck (3-35). Andrew Harris also picked up 3-43 as Leicestershire notched their first Championship away win in four years. After winning just two Championship matches last season, Leicestershire have now won their opening two fixtures of this summer under new captain Matthew Hoggard. Resuming on 13-1 chasing a nominal 403 to win, Derbyshire could not have hoped for a better first session as Madsen and Borrington denied the visiting bowlers any success before lunch. But Borrington's 131-ball effort came to an end soon after the break when he played across the line to Hoggard and was given out lbw. His dismissal triggered a steady stream of Derbyshire wickets, but Madsen held firm, bringing up his century from 214 deliveries. However, when he was caught at short leg by James Taylor off Buck, Leicestershire moved to kill off the home side with 11.2 overs to spare.
