COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, The Oval: Match Drawn. Surrey 430 and 309-7, Glamorgan 702-8 dec (Glamorgan 11pts, Surrey 10pts) 23-26 September
Surrey wicketkeeper Jonathan Batty occupied the crease for two and a half sessions at The Oval for the century which denied Glamorgan victory. Former Surrey skipper Batty, 35, hit 120, featuring in a match-saving fourth-wicket stand of 174 in 63 overs with current captain Stewart Walters. Batty's second century of what may prove his last season at The Oval helped Surrey reach 309-7. That secured their 11th draw of a disappointing Second Division campaign. With nothing to play for other than final placings, Glamorgan's failure to win meant they finished fifth instead of fourth. Surrey had already assured themselves of finishing seventh, a place above London neighbours Middlesex. Batty's 120, his highest score of the summer, included 14 fours and came from 272 balls. Responding to Glamorgan's 702-8dec, at 302-7, only 30 runs ahead, Usman Afzaal, who tore a hamstring in the field on Friday, had to emerge at number nine to bat with a runner. But he survived six balls until the sides shook hands on a draw.
