PRO40 DIVISION TWO, Canterbury: Northants 244-6 beat Kent 145 by 99 runs (Northants 2pts, Kent 0pts)
Left-arm seamer Lucas finished with 4-28 from his eight overs |
Kent missed out on the runners-up spot in Pro40 Division Two after a 99-run defeat to Northants at Canterbury. David Lucas took 4-28, supported by Graeme White (3-42), as Kent were bowled out for 145. Earlier, the visitors closed on 244-6, wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien making 72 and Rob White an unbeaten 70. The defeat means Kent finish third in the last ever Division Two table and collect £15,000 prize money, while Northants finish fourth. After Northants lost the toss and were asked to bat, O'Brien and opening partner Stephen Peters took advantage of an inexperienced Kent attack to hammer 101 inside 12 overs. O'Brien's 72 came from just 52 balls while Peters took 43 deliveries to make his 47. When they fell, to Rob Ferley and James Tredwell respectively, White's 80-ball effort anchored the Northants innings to what proved to be a winning total. Lucas then took the first four Kent wickets to reduce the home side to 58-4, a slump from which they never recovered. James Hockley (55) and Azhar Mahmood (36) tried to repair the damage with a fifth-wicket stand of 45. But, when Hockley was caught and bowled by Nicky Boje, Kent lost their last six wickets for 42.
