Skipper Boeta Dippenaar's second County Championship century of the summer helped Leicestershire clinch a draw against promotion hopefuls Essex. Leicestershire began the final day on 42-2 having followed on, but Dippenaar, dropped by Alastair Cook at slip on 39, hit 14 fours in an unbeaten 115. He added 129 for the fifth wicket with James Taylor (60), who eventually fell to spinner Danish Kaneria (4-87). The draw was agreed as Leicestershire closed on 258-6, 85 runs ahead. Umpire Vanburn Holder was hit on the back when David Masters threw the ball in from deep square leg before lunch and was temporarily replaced, but later returned.
