COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Grace Road: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Gloucestershire 138 and 133-5 and Leicestershire 368 and 133 (Leics 8pts, Glos 3pts) 19-22 August 2009
AJ Harris took two wickets to go with his first-innings 5-26 |
Bottom side Leicestershire look to be heading for victory over promotion-chasing Gloucestershire at Grace Road. Set 364 to win, the visitors will begin the final day on 133-5, 231 short of their target. Earlier, Leicestershire moved from 49-5 overnight to be bowled out for 133 in their second innings. And, despite a second-wicket stand of 58 between Kadeer Ali (48) and Hamish Marshall (36), Gloucestershire are staring defeat in the face. Gloucestershire were given a sniff of victory when Marshall, a part-time seamer, picked up three of the wickets to fall on Friday to finish with figures of 4-24. He ended a sixth-wicket stand of 44 between James Benning (25) and James Taylor (24) when he had Benning caught by Chris Taylor and, with the help of Ian Saxelby and Jon Lewis, mopped up the tail before lunch. After Rob Woodman was trapped lbw by AJ Harris, Marshall and Kadeer made steady progress before the New Zealander fell lbw to Wayne White and Gidman was out in similar fashion to Harris. Taylor was then run out by a brilliant throw by Benning and, next ball, Kadeer was bowled by left-arm spinner Claude Henderson to leave Leicestershire on the verge of their second win of the season.
