Yorkshire needed only half the final day at Basingstoke to complete a first County Championship win of the summer.

Adil Rashid followed up his highest score of the season (117no) on Thursday with his best bowling figures (5-41).

Resuming on 75-2, Michael Carberry hit 70 as Hampshire still looked likely to save the game on 230-4 with Liam Dawson (50) and Sean Ervine (48) well set.

But Ervine was run out and Rashid ran through the tail as Hants were bowled out for 252 to lose by an innings.

It was Yorkshire's first Championship win in 21 matches since beating Somerset at Taunton in early June 2008.

And victory at May's Bounty lifts them out of the relegation zone, ahead of Hampshire.

Hampshire fell away from the moment Ervine was run out, as 21-year-old leg-spinner Rashid got to grips.

Having begun the last day knowing that defeat by their relegation rivals would send them plummeting into the bottom two of Division One, Hampshire reached 107 before losing their first wicket of the day.

James Vince was leg before for 43 but the key man was in-form opener Carberry.

He had scored a century in each his four previous Championship matches and looked in sight of another when he was caught behind off Ajmal Shahzad.

Even then, Ervine joined Dawson to mount the most productive stand of the innings, 94 for the fifth wicket. But then came that run-out and Rashid came on to change the course of the game.

Home captain Dimitri Mascarenhas was out first ball, caught at the wicket, and the rest was a procession.

Dawson's vigilant innings of 50 came to an end when he guided Rashid to Joe Sayers at slip.

Chris Tremlett went at the same score, also caught behind, Imran Tahir was stumped and, just four runs later, England prospect Rashid completed the rout when he bowled last man David Griffiths.
